Meet the Owners
Kelly, owner of Treat Play Love, moved to Grand Forks in 2003. Her biggest passion in life is animals, especially dogs. Kelly got her first dog when she was three years old and was hooked! Wayne has lived in Grand Forks since 1996. Both grew up in a farm/ranch environment and are true animal lovers at heart. Since moving to Grand Forks, we have had the opportunity to help with rescue, particularly IMPS (Internet Miniature Pinscher Service) and Circle of Friends Humane Society, at this point fostering over 100 animals. Kelly has also gotten involved at the Grand Forks Dog Training Club where she trains her dogs in obedience, rally obedience, and agility. Kelly also has three certified therapy dogs who visit the elderly.
LunaLuna is a 12-year-old longhaired Dachshund. Luna is a certified therapy dog and truly loves to visit people and brighten their days. Many people come into the store to “request” a visit with Luna while they are shopping.
TuscanTuscan is a 5-year-old mixed breed who was adopted through Prairie Paws Rescue in Jamestown. Tuscan is active in obedience and rally. He is also a certified therapy dog and has his canine good citizen (CGC). Tuscan’s favorite thing is AGILITY. He is now competing in AKC and NADAC trials with his mom and has earned two AKC titles as well as a NADAC trial so far. We look forward to many more titles in his lifetime.
TabithaTabitha is the newest addition to our family. She came to us with her siblings (litter of 11) who we fostered. We had been contemplating adding to our family so Tuscan would have a playmate. Tabitha fits in perfectly and has been a very good puppy. She is now 2 years old, has graduated from puppy kindergarten and received her Star Puppy title. She has also started to train for running agility with her brother. Tabitha is at the store with me often and is slowly working through some barking issues when other dogs come in the store. She does not have an aggressive bone in her body, is just a bit of a chicken.
Cosmo Cosmo is our guinea pig. He came to us from a family member who could no longer care for him. Cosmo loves to watch people come and go from his huge cage behind the cash register. He adores vegetables and if you want to hear him at his noisiest, come visit us at about 4 PM every day when he starts oinking at me for supper.
October 31, 1998 - Janurary, 17, 2017
Keira is a 18-year-old red Miniature Pinscher. She is a very mellow girl. Actually, she is always at the store with me and customers never even know that she is there. Keira is entirely blind and unfortunately, she's also hard of hearing. She has her canine good citizen (CGC) and is a therapy dog who visits the elderly and developmentally disabled in the community. Keira has always been our angel who never seems to get in trouble.
February 12, 1979 - 1994
Kermit was my first dog. I got him when I was 3 years old and lost him when I was a senior in high school. He
was my constant companion through that entire period of my life and the reason I love dogs like I do!
July 22, 1996 - September 15, 2007
Chase was our first Rottweiler and an absolute angel. He was a country boy for most of his life though so he
missed out on the stuff that our dogs do now. He passed of osteosarcoma (bone cancer).
April 24, 2000 -
November 30, 2008
Kaiser was our youngest Min Pin who, unfortunately, passed early in life. He never had a health issue in his life
and passed instantly of a suspected aneurysm at the age of 8, two days after being anesthetized.
December 7, 1997 - June 11, 2011
Storm was the definition of a Min Pin. He was an attention whore and a naughty dog, but also was a ton of fun! He passed away from a stroke after a 6-month battle with insulinoma, a form of cancer
June 23, 2013
Odin came to us late in his life from a hoarding situation in Texas. He was my special dog who was the closest to
a perfect dog that a person could ever get. He passed away very quickly from splenic hemangiosarcoma.
November 20, 1996 -
May 4, 2014
Maya was my special girl, my soul mate. She passed away after struggling with many health issues at the age of
17, from a suspected brain tumor.
January 1, 2008 - October 15, 2016
Ruger is our 8-year-old Rottweiler who helps at the store occasionally. Ruger is our second Rottweiler, but has been a bit of a problem child. At this point in his life, unfortunately, he has fairly severe medical issues. Ruger is severely epileptic - he has had 150+ seizures in 4 years. He is a very smart boy and has earned his rally novice title and truly loved to run agility with his mom. Due to his medical issues, he is no longer able to run agility anymore. Ruger is enjoying his senior years of life in our laps, all 85 pounds of him.
Cornelius Cornelius is a ton of fun in a small chubby package. It is quite entertaining to watch this little guy rearrange his cage and mess up any cleaning that I do in there. Cornelius was a rescue rat and not accustomed to being carried around so he will never be a pocket rat but is happy and content in the store watching people come and go and doing a little partying at night time when no one is here to see it. He LOVES food - junk food and fruit are his favorites!
January 9, 2005 - March 2, 2018
Kurbi is an 11-year-old male. He is a big fuzzy handsome bear of a kitty that is a great charmer. He is a social boy that loves to nudge you for attention and cuddles. If you have a dog who needs to be introduced to a cat, Kurbi is a great tester cat. He hasn't met a dog that he's afraid of yet and sometimes the dogs even learn to be on their best behavior around him. We have discovered that Kurbi enjoys having a lion cut. He gets lots of attention for the haircut and seems to enjoy being "naked!"
