Meet the Owners

Kelly and Wayne purchased the store in 2011. We have both had dogs our entire lives and they are our passion, more so with every passing year.  Since 2008, we have had the opportunity to help with rescue organizations such as IMPS (Internet Miniature Pinscher Service), Circle of Friends Animal Shelter and Journey Home Animal Rescue.  We believe strongly in rescue as well as responsible breeding.  Kelly has also become increasingly involved with the Grand Forks Dog Training Club where she is a volunteer instructor as well as a board member.  She trains her own dogs in obedience, rally, therapy dog, scent work, and agility.  Agility is her happy place and she will often compete on weekends with Tuscan and Tabitha.

Learn more about our team below, as well as our beloved pets who are now playing in rainbow bridge.

Meet Our Team

Amanda

Amanda has worked at Treat Play Love since May 2021. In her spare time, she, and her dog Kona (Corgi/Aussie mix), love to run agility and have started to dabble in other AKC events. After trying what felt like every kibble brand on the market, she switched to a 100% raw diet with Kona a few months after she began at Treat Play Love. She has seen a major difference in Kona’s skin, teeth, and energy level since quitting kibble AND she’s not picky anymore!!

Becky

Becky has worked at Treat Play Love since March 2019 after being a longtime customer. Becky is an avid supporter of animal rescues. She enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her pups Oreo and Pepper. Becky enjoys learning about pet nutrition and seeing the difference raw feeding has made in her dogs health. Oreo and Pepper enjoy trying out all the different kinds of treats and chews with their favorite being the marrow bones.

Karen

Karen has worked at Treat Play Love since 2014. She loves letting her dog, Remy, try new foods and treats (the weirder, the better)! Remy is always happy to provide feedback, too. Away from work, if there’s a hockey game on she probably watching it with a big ol’ dog in her lap. Go, Wings!

Tuscan

Tuscan is a 10-year-old mixed breed who was adopted through Prairie Paws Rescue in Jamestown. Tuscan loves doing anything with his mom, whether it's agility, scentwork or obedience. He also loves showing off his tricks and never met a camera he didn't like.

Tabitha

Tabitha came to us with her siblings (a litter of 11) who we fostered.  She is now 8 years old.  Tabitha runs agility with her brother and has definitely become the more consistent of the two, despite struggling with finding any speed.  You will sometimes hear Tabitha barking at other dogs when they come into the store.  Sorry, we are working on that.

Radcliffe

Radcliffe is an Abyssinian guinea pig. We started fostering him April 16th, 2022 and was estimated to be 1 year old. Radcliffe is a rambunctious ball of energy and trouble. He is almost always up to something. He is very outgoing, sweet and adorable. He is friendly with people and loves dogs. He will come right up to meet a dog and will do happy pop corning afterwards. He loves to eat and demands snacks by biting on his x-pen. If you take too long with his morning veggies he will peak out of the piggy condo to remind you with his cute little mouse face.

Rupert

Rupert is an Abyssinian guinea pig. We started to foster him April 16th, 2022 and he was estimated to be 2 years old. Rupert is a little more shy and reserved. He loves to eat and will bicker at his brother Radcliffe if he gets too close while he is indulging. Rupert likes head scratches and to snuggle up right under your chin. He will also give you little kisses. He is very vocal when being held and will usually let you know when he has had enough by his little squeaks. Rupert is an old soul and doesn't think running and jumping around is necessary and will patiently wait for you to give him his treats. We have nicknamed him grumpy toad because of his resting grump face.

Tonks

Tonks is a 1-year-old Border Collie who is the newest addition to our family. She is a bit more shy than the other dogs, but you will sometimes see her out working on the floor doing some training with Kelly. She will hopefully be the next agility dog in our family.

Chase (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

July 22, 1996 - September 15, 2007
Chase was our first Rottweiler and an absolute angel. He was a country boy for most of his life though so he missed out on the stuff that our dogs do now. He passed of osteosarcoma (bone cancer).

Cosmo (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

January 2013 - August 9, 2020

Cosmo was our first guinea pig. He loved to watch customers come and go and also enjoyed watching TV. He adored fruits and veggies. Cosmo would also love for Karen to make him a wonderful little hay basket. He learned to boss us around with his squeaks.

Kaiser (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

April 24, 2000 - November 30, 2008
Kaiser was our youngest Min Pin who, unfortunately, passed early in life. He never had a health issue in his life and passed instantly of a suspected aneurysm at the age of 8, two days after being anesthetized.

Keira (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

October 31, 1998 - January, 17, 2017
Keira was a very mellow girl. She was always at the store with me and customers never even knew that she was here. She had earned her CGC and was also a therapy dog who visited the elderly and developmentally disabled in the community. Keira was our little angel who never got in trouble.

Kermit (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

February 12, 1979 - 1994
Kermit was my first dog. I got him when I was 3 years old and lost him when I was a senior in high school. He was my constant companion through that entire period of my life and the reason I love dogs like I do!

Kurbi (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

January 9, 2005 - March 2, 2018
Kurbi was a fuzzy handsome bear of a kitty and was a great charmer. He loved to nudge customers for attention and cuddles. If you had a dog who needed to be introduced to a cat, Kurbi was your man He hadn't met a dog that he was afraid of. Kurbi also loved his lion cut. He got a lot of attention for the haircut and seemed to enjoy being "naked".

Luna (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

May 22, 2006 - December 12, 2023

Luna is a 16-year-old long hair Dachshund. She is a retired therapy dog. You will often see her doing "mall laps" around the store for exercise. Don't be offended if she walks ALMOST up to you and then walks away. Her eyesight and hearing aren't what they used to be...or she's just a little snob now. She's old...she kind of gets to do what she wants.

Maya (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

November 20, 1996 - May 4, 2014
Maya was small, but mighty. She was a huge mama’s girl who was very rarely parted from my side. Maya was afraid of nothing in life and met anything with full force, in true Min Pin fashion.

Odin (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

?/?/2000 - June 23, 2013
Odin came to us late in his life from a hoarding situation in Texas. He was my special dog who was the closest to a perfect dog that a person could ever get. He passed away very quickly from splenic hemangiosarcoma.

Ruger (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

January 1, 2008 - October 15, 2016
Ruger was our 2nd Rottweiler and was a bit of a problem child, but we loved him greatly. He was severely epileptic, but was a very smart boy who earned a rally title and loved to play agility with his mom. Ruger also loved to hang out on our laps as an 85 pound lap dog.

Storm (Playing in Rainbow Bridge)

December 7, 1997 - June 11, 2011
Storm was the definition of a Min Pin. He was an attention hog and a naughty dog, but also was a ton of fun! He passed away from a stroke after a 6-month battle with insulinoma, a form of cancer.
